Before passing judgment on John Diebold’s immortal soul, the reader should note that it is not clear whether he was in fact connected with the controversial Diebold voting machines, although today’s New York Times says that his investment firm, John Diebold Inc., “financed such ventures as… a well-known manufacturer of polling machines.” The Times has been known to err.
